Itinerary for 7 Day Desert Tour from Tangier

Day 1: Arrival in Tangier - Chefchaouen

The first day of the trip starts by picking you up from your accommodation, the port, or the Airport. If you arrive early, we will take the coastal road to visit Hercules caves, Cape Spartel, and the old city.

After that, we will head to the blue city through the Rif mountains, making quick stops along the way for panoramic views. Arriving in Chefchaouen, you will check into your accommodation and start exploring the city. If you arrive around evening time, we recommend climbing up to the Spanish mosque for the sunset and a panoramic view of the city. Coming down the blue streets, you can cross through the Utat Lhmam square, the city center, enjoy a Moroccan dinner watching street performers, then head back to your accommodation.

    Day 2: Chefchaouen - Volubilis - Meknes - Fes

We recommend waking up early for a morning walk, as the streets of Chefchaouen are quiet and almost empty. It is the perfect time to enjoy the blue streets of the medina.

After breakfast, we leave Chefchaouen through the Rif mountains. The first main stop will be in Volubilis, the Roman ruins in Morocco. Here, you will have time to explore the site and learn about its history.

Next, we head to Meknes, one of the imperial cities in Morocco. We will visit its main attractions, including Lhdim Square, Bab Mansour, Qara Prison, and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail.

Finally, we continue our journey to Fes, where we will spend the night.

    Day 3: Fes Guided Tour

Today, we will visit the city of Fes with a local guide.

To start with, we will take the car to visit the Royal Palace, the biggest in Morocco, with 7 silver gates. Then, we will cross through the Mellah or the Jewish neighborhood, heading to the Borj Sud for the panoramic views of the old city.

Since Fes is the cultural capital of Morocco and considered one of the oldest cities with unique architecture, we will take you to see where all of these designs and mosaic patterns come from.

Next, we leave the car and start the walking tour with the local guide. We will go deeper into the old city to discover the Al Qarawiyyine mosque, the oldest university in the world, and the Chouara Tanneries, where they dye leather. Next, we will visit the Mausoleum of Idriss II, the Attarine, Bou Inania Madrassas, and the Blue Gate.

Finally, after a long walk around the old city, we will take you back to your accommodation. Free time to walk around on your own.

Day 4: Fes - Ifrane - Cedar Forest - Ziz Valley - Merzouga - Camel Trekking - Camping

On the 4th day of your 7 day tour from Tangier, we will head to the Sahara Desert. First, we will drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains and stop in Ifrane, a clean and quiet town where it usually snows every winter. Then, we continue the drive across the cedar woods and visit the Barbary monkeys.

Enjoy the green open fields between the High and the Middle Atlas Mountains as we get close to Midelt. This area is full of Berber Nomads who travel from one place to another with their sheep and goats.

Next, after having lunch, we will cross the High Atlas, reaching an altitude of 1917m above sea level. Here, we will make a quick stop at Ziz Valley with endless palm groves.

In the late afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, the highlight of our trip. We will start our desert adventure with a camel ride over the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, making a stop for the sunset.

Finally, we will head down to the desert camp, check into your tent, have dinner, and get ready for the drums party.

Day 5: Merzouga - Rissani - Todra Gorges - Dades Gorges

Today, you can start the day with an early wake-up to catch the sunrise.

After having breakfast, we will get into the car and drive to Rissani. This city hosts one of the biggest traditional markets in Morocco, where locals gather from every corner of the desert to buy or sell goods. If you arrive there on Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday, which are the market days, you can have a walk around its main sections, where they sell clothes, vegetables, animals, secondhand stuff, and more.

Next, we will cross through the desert villages like Touroug, Fezna, and Tinghir, making stops for panoramic views of the valleys. Arriving in Todra Gorges, you will have free time to walk through the gorges for a short hike.

Finally, we will drive through the Dades Valley to visit the Monkey Toes mountains, and the winding road of Tissdrine.

    Overnight in the Dades Gorges.

Day 6: Dades Gorges - Rose Valley - Ouarzazate - Ait Benhaddou - High Atlas - Marrakech

On the sixth day of the trip from Tangier, we will drive through the One Thousand Kasbahs route, crossing the Rose Valley and the Skoura Oases. They are famous for growing Damas roses, endless palm groves, and Kasbahs.

Next, we will head to Ouarzazate, the Hollywood of Africa, where we will visit the Atlas studios. Enjoy a guided tour inside the studio and learn about places where they filmed scenes of famous movies and series.

Afterwards, we will drive to visit the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, one of the most iconic fortresses in Morocco. It was featured in many movies and series like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Here, you will have time to walk through its narrow streets up the mountain and explore its mud-brick architecture.

In the late afternoon, we continue our drive through the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest road pass in North Africa. Along the way, we will make a stop at an altitude of 2260 m to enjoy the mountain views.

Finally, we arrive in Marrakech by evening and drop you off at your accommodation to relax and get ready to explore the city the next day. You can have an evening walk through the square.

Day 7: Marrakech Guided Tour - Transfer to the Airport

As in Fes, a local guide from Marrakech will come to pick you up from your accommodation and walk you around the old city to see the most interesting attractions. First, you will walk through Jamaa El Fna and visit famous landmarks like the Koutoubia Mosque, the Bahia Palace, the Badi Palace, and the Saadian Tombs. Furthermore, we will go deeper into the old Madina and visit the Madrassa Ben Youssef.

We took a 7 day mother-daughter tour to discover Marrakech and the Merzouga desert. It was our guides who made this experience incredible and special, ready to satisfy every request and answer all our questions. There are few countries in the world that have touched my heart like Morocco. A unique life experience, an adventure that I would do the same again stage by stage, accompanied by a wonderful guide, Said, capable of making you feel at home from the first day. Thanks to his anecdotes, his safe driving and his patience he was able to give us a tour of this wonderful country that I would never have imagined before leaving. The choice of hotels and riads, the cuisine, the hospitality and the care taken with the travel plan by the agency was impeccable…
