This is a 3-day tour from Fes to discover the Atlas mountains and the Sahara desert of Merzouga. It starts in Fes across the Atlas mountains, where you will visit Ifrane, Cedar forest, and Ziz valley. Then, to the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga, where you will ride a camel and experience camping at Berber tents. Moreover, this trip from Fes includes one full day to explore the desert on a 4×4 safari ride, visiting nomads, Berber villages, Oases, and mines.
The 3 day desert tour from Fes to Merzouga starts with a pick-up service from your accommodation at 8 am. First, we will drive through the Middle and the High Atlas mountains, where we will make two main stops. On the first hand, we will stop in Ifrane, the little Switzerland of Morocco, and one of the cleanest cities in Africa. On the other hand, we will drive deeper into the Middle Atlas mountains through cedar woods to see the Barbary monkeys.
Further, we will continue our way through the green mountain ranges and fields, passing by Berber villages and observing the nomads with their herds. Lunch will be near the city of Midelt before crossing the High Atlas mountains. From here, you will notice the change in the climate as the fields turn harsher and drier.
In the late afternoon, we will arrive at the desert of Merzouga, where you will ride camels across the golden dunes. We will make a stop on top of the dunes for pictures and to watch the sunset. Next, we will ride the camels and head to the desert camp. Check in your tents and enjoy the desert views. Finally, after having dinner, the camp staff organizes a small party where they play drums and sing about the desert. Free time to do stargazing.
Today is dedicated to discovering the Merzouga desert. However, before that, we recommend waking up early in the morning to witness the beauty of the sunrise over the dunes. After having breakfast in the camp, get in the 4×4 and start driving deeper into the desert. First, we will visit the Berber nomads living in traditional tents. These people still live the simple life, moving from one place to another with their herds. After that, we will head through the black desert where we will visit the mines of Mascara.
Continuing our Safari tour, we will head to discover the Gnaoua people in Khamlia. This is another ethnicity living in the desert, mostly with dark skin, who originally came from Sub-Saharan countries. What makes this village unique and interesting is that most of these people have kept their traditions alive, and they have made an entertainment center to show other people their music styles and way of living.
Finally, we will head for lunch and taste the traditional desert cuisine, the Berber pizza or Madfouna. Next, we will take you to see the Oasis of Hassi Labied and its irrigation systems.
On the last day of our desert tour, we will drive back to Fes. The main stop of today is going to be in the Ziz valley, one of the biggest palm groves in Morocco. Then, we will continue the journey through the Ziz Gorges and its running river. further, we will drive by Midlet, Zaida, and Imouzar Kinder to Fes, our final destination. finally, we will drop you off at your accommodation, end of the trip.

The tour usually starts around 8:00 AM in Fes and ends around 4-6 PM on the 4th day back in Fes (or Marrakech, if requested).
For 1 to 4 pax, we use an SUV, either a Land Cruiser, Toyota Prado, or s Mitsubishi sport. For 5 to 8 pax, we use a minivan. For more than that, we use a minibus.
